The Minister for Tourism and Cinematography, Kandula Durgesh, recently revealed that two significant tourism projects in Andhra Pradesh will receive funding. Under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, the Ministry of Tourism has approved Rupees 177 crore to develop the Akhanda Godavari and Gandikota tourism circuits. These projects will be executed through a Public Private People Partnership (4P) model, with tenders set to be invited soon.

Akhanda Godavari Project

The Akhanda Godavari project will receive Rupees 98 crore for its development. The project aims to restore the historic Havelock Bridge, which served for over a century before being decommissioned. Additionally, the Kadiyam flower nurseries will be revamped to attract tourists, further boosting the local economy.

Gandikota Tourism Circuit

The Gandikota tourism circuit will receive Rupees 79 crore for its enhancement. This initiative will focus on beautifying the 12th-century Gandikota Fort and its surrounding gorge. The project will also improve hospitality infrastructure to accommodate tourists. The fort’s historical and architectural significance is expected to attract a growing number of visitors.

Historical Importance Of Gandikota

Gandikota, situated near the Penna River, has a rich historical backdrop. It served as a stronghold for several dynasties, including the Kalyani Chalukyas and the Golconda Sultanate. The fort's unique design blends Islamic architecture with local styles, showcasing the influence of various rulers. The surrounding gorge, created by the Erramala hills, adds to the region's scenic allure.

Special Assistance To States For Capital Investment 2023-24 Scheme

Introduced by the Ministry of Finance in 2020-21, this scheme was designed to support states during the COVID-19 pandemic by boosting their capital expenditure. For the 2023-24 financial year, the scheme provides Rupees 1.3 lakh crore in interest-free loans over 50 years to state governments.

Key Components Of Scheme

The scheme is divided into eight parts:

• Part-I (Rupees 1 lakh crore): This portion is allocated to states based on their share of central taxes as per the 15th Finance Commission's recommendations.

• Part-II: Focuses on incentives for scrapping old vehicles and establishing automated vehicle testing centers.

• Part-III & IV: Aimed at encouraging reforms in urban planning and urban finance.

• Part-V: Provides funding for the construction of housing for police personnel in urban police stations.

• Part-VI: Supports initiatives like Make in India, One District One Product, and Unity Mall to promote cultural diversity and local products.

• Part-VII: Allocates Rupees 5,000 crore for establishing digital libraries at Panchayat and Ward levels, benefiting children and adolescents.

• Stimulate economic demand and job creation.

• Accelerate key projects like the Jal Jeevan Mission and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana by assisting states with their funding obligations.
