Description
India's first tactical quasi-ballistic missile, Pralay, will be prominently featured at the Republic Day parade on 26th January 2025. Although it successfully completed trials in 2022, its official integration into the armed forces is still pending. The missile plays a key role in strengthening the Indian Army's battlefield capabilities.
Pralay Missile Overview
Pralay is a short-range quasi-ballistic missile with a striking range of 150-500 km. Designed for surface-to-surface operations, it can carry warheads weighing between 350 and 700 kg. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), it is tailored to meet India’s specific defence needs.
Missile Development And Timeline
The Pralay missile program was initiated in 2015, drawing from the Prahaar missile project, which was first tested in 2011. In just seven years, the missile has advanced to the point where it is ready for induction.
Technical Specifications
Pralay uses a solid propellant rocket motor and is equipped with cutting-edge technologies. It is designed to avoid interception, with the ability to maneuver mid-flight. The missile is guided by an inertial system and has a radio frequency seeker for terminal phase guidance.

Equipped with a jet vane system for thrust vector control, Pralay can execute evasive maneuvers during its terminal phase. Additionally, it has small fins that help reduce its radar visibility.
