Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently launched a series of telecom initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and security across India. These initiatives include the Sanchar Saathi Mobile App, National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0, and Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) at DBN-funded 4G mobile sites. The government’s focus is on enhancing telecom services to empower citizens and foster a digitally inclusive society.

Sanchar Saathi Mobile App

The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App is designed to improve telecom security by providing users with tools to report fraud, manage mobile connections, block lost devices, and verify handset authenticity. Available on both Android and iOS, the app targets over 90 crore smartphone users in India, offering a comprehensive solution to enhance telecom safety.

National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0

Building on the success of NBM 1.0, the updated NBM 2.0 aims to connect 1.7 lakh villages by 2030. The goal is to ensure a minimum broadband speed of 100 Mbps and expand connectivity to 90% of anchor institutions. This initiative envisions a digitally inclusive future where all citizens have access to high-speed broadband services.

Intra Circle Roaming (ICR)

The ICR initiative allows multiple telecom service providers to share infrastructure at DBN-funded 4G sites. This collaboration among BSNL, Airtel, and Reliance enhances connectivity in over 35,400 rural villages, providing seamless 4G services and reducing capital expenditure for telecom operators.

Cybersecurity Measures

The Sanchar Saathi initiative has made significant strides in tackling cyber fraud. It has successfully disconnected 2.75 crore fraudulent connections and recovered over 25 lakh lost devices. Additionally, the International Incoming Spoofed Calls Prevention System has blocked 90% of spoofed calls, helping to mitigate cybersecurity risks.

Collaboration And Stakeholder Engagement

The initiatives are being carried out in collaboration with various stakeholders, including ministries, state governments, and telecom service providers. This coordinated effort is designed to streamline processes and enhance the effectiveness of the new telecom regulations.

Previous Achievements Of NBM 1.0

Launched in 2019, NBM 1.0 expanded optical fibre networks and grew the number of broadband subscribers to 941 million. It addressed Right of Way issues and introduced the "Call Before u Dig" app to protect telecom infrastructure. The mission was instrumental in bridging the digital divide and improving access to critical services.

Future Vision

These initiatives are aligned with the government’s vision for a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) by 2047. By focusing on technology and innovation, the initiatives aim to drive socio-economic growth, empower citizens, and build a connected, resilient, and sustainable India.
