Issues With Current Mining Methods
At present, heavy rare earth elements (HREE) are primarily extracted from ion-adsorption rare earth deposits (IADs) found in South China. This region is responsible for 95% of the global HREE supply. Traditional mining methods rely heavily on ammonium-salt-based leaching agents to extract HREEs from IADs, a process that has both low efficiency and a harmful impact on the local ecosystem.
