The Union Minister for Commerce and Industry recently launched the National Turmeric Board in New Delhi. This initiative aims to steer efforts in the turmeric sector, enhancing coordination with the Spices Board and other government agencies for its development and growth.
Structure Of National Turmeric Board
The Board will be led by a Chairperson appointed by the Central Government, and a Secretary from the Department of Commerce. The Board will also include members from various ministries such as AYUSH, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Pharmaceuticals, and Commerce & Industry. Additionally, representatives from key turmeric-producing states like Maharashtra, Telangana, and Meghalaya, along with research institutions, turmeric farmers, and exporters, will form part of the Board. The state representatives will rotate.
Key Objectives And Focus Areas
The National Turmeric Board will concentrate on several crucial areas, including research and development, enhancing the value of turmeric products, and promoting awareness about the spice's medicinal and health benefits. The Board will work towards improving turmeric yield, strengthening logistics and supply chains, and exploring new international markets for Indian turmeric. Additionally, it will be responsible for ensuring quality standards and safety protocols for both domestic and international turmeric production and exports.

The headquarters of the National Turmeric Board will be based in Nizamabad, Telangana.
