Union Minister Piyush Goyal recently inaugurated the Bharat Cleantech Manufacturing Platform at the Bharat Climate Forum 2025 in New Delhi. Concerns About Product Linked Incentives (PLIs)
Goyal raised concerns that while PLIs may jump-start the clean energy sector, over-reliance on such incentives could limit long-term growth. He stressed the importance of the sector becoming self-sustaining and urged a focus on sustainable development, moving beyond government support.
Clean Energy Capacity Goals
India is targeting 500 gigawatts of clean energy capacity by 2030. Goyal noted that the country has already surpassed its 2022 clean energy goals, achieving them eight years ahead of schedule. With 200 gigawatts currently installed, India is well on its way to meeting its ambitious clean energy targets.

India has shown strong performance in meeting its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Goyal highlighted that India is on track to exceed its climate targets, demonstrating the country’s proactive approach in addressing climate change.

Gujarat has been at the forefront of solar energy adoption in India, and Goyal credited the state for its early commitment to renewable energy.
