Description
The Karnataka Forest Department has introduced the Garudakshi online FIR system to combat illegal activities such as forest encroachments, tree-felling, poaching, and unauthorized entry into protected forest areas.
About Garudakshi
Garudakshi is a digital platform modeled after the online FIR system, designed specifically to address wildlife and forest-related crimes. The system will initially be rolled out on a pilot basis in select regions, including Bengaluru Urban, Bhadravathi, Sirsi, and the Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary divisions of Karnataka.
Once fully implemented, the Garudakshi portal will make the registration of FIRs through the platform mandatory for forest crime cases. The system is intended to streamline the process of addressing forest and wildlife offenses in line with the Forest and Wildlife Protection Acts.
Key Features Of Garudakshi
The software is equipped with several modules to facilitate efficient management of forest crime cases:
Legacy Case Registration Module - This feature will help manage and document previous cases.
Online Forest Offence Registration - A dedicated module for registering new offenses related to the forest.
Investigation Module - A tool for tracking and managing investigations into forest crimes.
Reporting and Analytics Module - A feature for generating reports and analyzing trends related to forest offenses.
In addition, the Garudakshi portal allows the public to file complaints about forest crimes via mobile phones or email, making it easier for citizens to report violations.
Development And Collaboration
The platform has been developed in partnership with the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), ensuring that it is tailored to address the unique challenges of forest and wildlife protection.
By digitizing the process of reporting and handling forest crimes, Garudakshi aims to improve the efficiency of law enforcement and contribute to the protection of Karnataka’s natural resources.
