Description
Delhi University (DU) is set to introduce a reservation for single girl children in all postgraduate courses starting from the 2025-26 academic session. A proposal for this initiative will be discussed at the upcoming academic council meeting on Friday. Currently, DU already reserves one seat per undergraduate course for single girl children, a policy that was implemented in the 2023-24 admission cycle. This year, 764 students were admitted under this scheme across 69 colleges.
Postgraduate admissions at DU are conducted through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), followed by the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). In the 2023-24 admission cycle, over 90,000 students applied for 13,500 postgraduate seats.
If approved, the new quota will apply to all 77 postgraduate programs offered by the university. DU also has reservations for other categories, including sports, persons with disabilities (PwD), children and widows of armed forces personnel (CW), and orphaned children.
With this initiative, DU aims to offer greater support to single girl children and encourage them to pursue higher education, according to university officials.
