Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, unveiled six new initiatives in Bilaspur as part of the second anniversary celebrations of the Congress government. These schemes are designed to boost agricultural productivity, support education, and improve the livelihoods of rural communities.
Him Bhog Atta Initiative
The "Him Bhog Atta" scheme focuses on promoting natural farming practices. Under this initiative, maize flour sourced from organic maize will be made available. The government has purchased 398 metric tonnes of maize from 1,506 farmers across ten districts, with direct bank transfers totaling Rs 1.20 crore to the farmers for financial support.
Organic Compost Scheme
The state government introduced a scheme to assist small farmers and livestock owners by offering organic and vermicompost at Rs 300 per quintal. Additionally, Rs 1 lakh was transferred to 100 farmers through direct benefit transfers to enhance their income and promote sustainable farming practices.
Electric Taxi Subsidy Programme
As part of the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Start-up Scheme 2023, 16 electric taxi owners were provided with keys to their new vehicles. These taxi owners received a 50% subsidy for purchasing e-taxis, which will be leased to government offices. The state government plans to issue approximately 150 permits for electric taxis in the first phase of this programme.
Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana
The Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana was launched with a financial allocation of Rs 1.38 crore to benefit 5,145 families. The scheme is designed to support the education of 23,000 children, offering a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 to children under 18. Additionally, it provides financial assistance for higher education to families in vulnerable situations.
HP Shiva Project
The Himachal Pradesh Subtropical Horticulture, Irrigation and Value Addition Project (HP Shiva), with a budget of Rs 1,292 crore, was also announced. This large-scale initiative aims to develop horticulture across seven districts, covering 6,000 hectares and producing 1.3 lakh metric tonnes of fruit annually by 2032. Over 15,000 farming families will benefit from this project.
