Description

The Ministry of Education has announced that the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2024 will take place on December 4, 2024. Around 23 lakh students from approximately 88,000 schools across 782 districts in 36 States and Union Territories are expected to participate in this large-scale educational assessment.

Survey Overview

The NAS will evaluate students in classes 3, 6, and 9 on subjects such as language, mathematics, science, social science, and "The World Around Us." The survey will be conducted in 23 languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, Bengali, Assamese, and Kannada.

Purpose Of Survey

The primary objective of the NAS is to assess the learning levels of students at various stages foundational (class 3), preparatory (class 6), and middle (class 9). This survey is aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It aims to identify learning gaps and provide insights into areas that require improvement to enhance the quality of education across the country.

Development And Administration

The test materials for NAS have been developed by PARAKH, an initiative under the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will manage the administration of the survey, with states and Union Territories offering additional support to ensure smooth execution.

Field Personnel And Coordination

A large team of over 95,000 field investigators will be deployed for the survey. In addition, 76,000 observers and more than 3,000 district officers will participate, ensuring effective monitoring of the assessment process. A dedicated team of 180 state nodal officers and 38 national observers will also oversee operations. All personnel have undergone training to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

Oversight And Reporting

The National Steering Committee, led by the Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, will provide overall supervision for the survey. Following the completion of the survey, detailed reports will be published at the national, state, and district levels, providing valuable insights into student performance. The NAS is conducted as part of a rolling program, with assessments held every three years for classes 3, 5, 8, and 10. The last NAS was held on November 12, 2021.

This assessment plays a crucial role in improving the education system by providing data-driven insights that help shape educational policies and strategies.
