Description

In a significant move to streamline the admission process, the Telangana state government has announced the launch of a centralized online admission system for junior colleges, set to begin in 2025. This change is aimed at addressing the varying fee structures in corporate and private colleges, as well as simplifying the admissions process for students.

New Online Admission Portal

The new system will allow students to apply to multiple junior colleges, including government-run, corporate, and private institutions, through a single online portal. This approach replaces the current system, which involves admissions through the Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST). Under the new system, admissions will continue to be based on merit, with candidates' scores from their intermediate exams playing a central role in college allotment, while also considering reservation policies.

The government is also planning to implement a uniform fee structure for corporate and private colleges before the new portal is fully launched. This step is expected to reduce the financial disparity between different types of institutions and provide students with a more transparent and equitable admission process.

Change In SSC Grading System

In a related development, the Telangana government has decided to discontinue the existing grading system used for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams, which has been a point of contention for some time. Currently, students in Class 10 are assigned grades such as A1, A2, B1, and so on, based on their marks. These grades, while helpful in categorizing student performance, have proven difficult to use in the centralized online admission system, where a more standardized ranking system is required.

As part of the reforms, the government will replace the grading system with a marks-based system for SSC exams. Students will now be assigned specific marks based on their performance in external examinations, allowing for a more straightforward and comparable ranking. This shift is expected to streamline the admission process and make it easier for students to secure placements in their desired colleges.

These changes are part of the Telangana government's broader efforts to modernize the education system and provide fairer, more efficient opportunities for students across the state.
