The discovery was made by a team from Pune's Agharkar Research Institute. The research was headed by Dr. Mandar Datar, with assistance from botanist Adittya Dharap and Ph.D. student Bhushan Shigwan. Characteristics Of Dicliptera Polymorpha
Dicliptera polymorpha is famous for its fire resistance. It blooms twice a year, with the first flowering period lasting from November to April. The second phase begins in May and June, caused by small grassland fires. This plant has an interesting inflorescence structure called spicate inflorescences. It is the only Indian species with this structure, and the nearest relatives are found in Africa.

This species has adapted to harsh weather conditions. It can withstand summer droughts and numerous human-caused fires. During the second flowering phase, the plant grows dwarf flowering shoots from woody rootstocks. This modification enables for a more prolific, but shorter flowering time.
