About The Common Cat Snake
The Common Cat Snake, also known as the Indian Gamma Snake, is a type of rear-fanged snake native to South Asia.
Scientific name- Boiga trigonata.
It is prevalent across India, with the exception of the northeastern states after Sikkim; it is also not found on Indian islands.
Habitat- It can be found in practically any type of woodland and at a variety of heights.
While poisonous, the Common Cat Snake's venom is not regarded particularly threatening to humans. It mainly employs its venom to subdue victims.
Features
The snake is medium-sized, about 70-100 cm in length.
Its body is narrow, with a tiny tail.
Its upper body is grey-brown with cream-colored irregular patterns and a black border.
The underside is yellow-white or yellow-brown.
Its head is huge, triangular-shaped, and noticeably larger than the neck.
Unlike other cat snakes in its area, this species has a distinctive "gamma" or "Y"-shaped marking that allows for fast identification in the field.
Life span- 12-20 years.
Diet- It is mostly composed of tiny vertebrates.
IUCN Red List- Least concern.
