Description

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) recently issued an alert regarding illegal payment gateways created by transnational organised cyber criminals employing mule bank accounts to facilitate money laundering as a service.

About The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C)

  • I4C was founded by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to combat cybercrime in the country in a coordinated and comprehensive manner.

  • The I4C focuses on addressing cybercrime challenges for citizens, including enhancing collaboration among various law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and stakeholders.

  • The center is based in New Delhi.

Functions

  • To serve as a focal point in the fight against cybercrime.

  • Identify LEAs' research challenges and needs, and conduct R&D activities to develop new technologies and forensic tools in partnership with academic/research institutes in India and overseas.

  • To prevent the use of internet to advance the cause of extremist and terrorist organizations.

  • Suggest revisions to cyber laws as needed to stay up with rapidly evolving technologies and international collaboration.

  • To coordinate all actions relating to the implementation of Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties (MLAT) with other countries regarding cybercrime in cooperation with the appropriate nodal authority in MHA.

  • I4C components include the National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (TAU), which reports on cybercrime risks on a regular basis.

  • National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP): To report various cybercrime issues by citizens at all India levels on a common platform 24x7 from "anywhere, anytime".

  • The National Cybercrime Training Centre (NCTC) provides training to government authorities, particularly state law enforcement organizations.

  • The National Cybercrime Research and Innovation Centre conducts research to build indigenous technologies for cybercrime prevention.

  • Platform for Joint Cyber Crime Coordination Team: For state/UT LEAs to coordinate and share cybercrime tactics, data, and information.

  • Cybercrime Ecosystem Management Unit: To raise public knowledge about cyber hygiene and the prevention of cybercrimes.

  • National Cybercrime Forensic Laboratory (Investigation) Ecosystem: To assist LEAs with cyber forensics investigations.

  • I4C brings together academia, industry, the public, and government to prevent, identify, investigate, and prosecute cybercrimes.

  • I4C envisions the Cyber Crime Volunteers Program as bringing together citizens with a desire to serve the nation on a single platform and contribute to the fight against cybercrime in the country.

Other Initiatives

  • Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System: For immediate reporting of financial cyber frauds and preventing cyber thieves from siphoning funds in near real time.

  • The National Toll-Free Helpline number '1930' has been operationalized to help citizens in filing online cyber complaints.

  • CyberDost handles on a variety of social media channels to raise cybersecurity awareness among citizens.
