In an important milestone move, the Odisha government has announced an increase in the casual leave (CL) entitlement for female employees, providing an additional 12 days per year beginning immediately. This increases their total CL to 27 days, vs 15 days for male employees. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directed the hike, which followed Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida's earlier Independence Day declaration of one paid menstrual leave per month for female employees.

Past Leave Policies

Previously, the BJD administration provided women employees in Odisha with 10 more CL days beginning in March 2024 to accommodate family duties and health issues. This has now been extended by two days.

Current Leave Entitlements

Women employees now have access to 12 additional CL days, at a rate of one day per month, specifically for menstrual leave. This is in addition to the existing ten regular CL days and five special CL days, bringing the total CL for women to 27 days per year.
