Description

The Samarth Scheme, a major project of the Ministry of Textiles, has been extended for another two years, to cover the fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26. The government has set allocated Rs 495 crore for the extension. The goal is to train 300,000 people in various textile trades.

Goal Of The Samarth Scheme

The Samarth Scheme's major goal is to help create jobs in the textile industry, with an emphasis on the organized sector. It promotes skill development throughout the textile value chain with the exception of spinning and weaving. This helps people find work and increases the industry's production.

Focus On Training

This scheme's training modules are regularly updated to reflect current technical advancements and market demands. It offers-

  • Entry-level training for novices to the textile industry.

  • Upskilling and reskilling programs for current employees, particularly in the apparel and garment industries. This allows individuals to gain new skills and become more efficient at their jobs.

  • The program also focuses on workers in traditional textile industries such as handloom, handicrafts, silk, and jute, ensuring that these centuries-old methods continue to survive in the current era.

Implementation Of The Scheme

Implementing Partners (IPs) carry out the Samarth Scheme, which includes-

  • Textile industry players.

  • Government agencies at both the national and state levels.

  • Sector-specific bodies include the Development Commissioners for Handloom and Handicrafts and the Central Wool Development Board.

Achievements Of The Scheme

Since its inception, the Samarth Scheme has trained 327,000 individuals. Of these, 260,000 (about 79.5%) have found work, demonstrating the effectiveness of training.

Focus On Women's Employment

The scheme focuses on women's employment. Out of all the trained candidates, 289,000 (88.3%) are women, demonstrating the program's commitment to gender inclusiveness in the textile industry.

About The Samarth Scheme

The Samarth Scheme, which was launched by the Ministry of Textiles in 2018, aims to promote skill development in the textile industry. It increases production and stimulates entrepreneurship among artists. The program promotes a wide range of textile sectors, including handlooms and handicrafts, and offers market-driven training programs. It also emphasizes the creation of sustainable livelihoods and encourages the participation of female craftsmen. Financial help is offered for starting new firms, and the plan collaborates with numerous partners to reach a large audience and improve execution.
