Description
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dedicated a new Very Low Frequency (VLF) Station of the Indian Navy in Damagundam Reserve Forest, Vikarabad, Telangana On October 15, 2024. This facility, spanning 2,900 acres and costing Rs 3,200 crore, intends to improve the Navy's communication capabilities by permitting safe and dependable long-distance transmission, which is critical for efficient command and control in challenging marine situations.
Strategic Importance
Rajnath Singh stressed that the VLF station will be a strategic asset, enabling real-time communication between navy ships, submarines, and command centers. He went on: "Without real-time communication, we cannot gain an edge despite having adequate equipment or manpower." This facility is intended to improve the Indian Navy's operational preparedness in light of the growing global interest in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The building of the VLF station is projected to create major job opportunities in nearby towns, with both skilled and unskilled labor needed during and after its completion. Singh confirmed that environmental issues are being handled, and that sustainable development techniques are in place.

Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff, indicated that the new VLF station will supplement the current facility at INS Kattabomman, maintaining a reliable communication network critical to naval operations.
