Description
BharatGen is a major new effort in generative AI, a sort of artificial intelligence capable of producing text, graphics, and even sound. BharatGen's mission is to improve public services and boost citizen participation in India with AI. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State, officially launched the project in New Delhi. BharatGen is part of India's attempts to create innovative technologies and intends to position the country as a global leader in artificial intelligence.
Key Objectives Of Bharatgen
The primary objective of BharatGen is to develop AI models that can interact with language, voice, and visual data. These models will be useful in addressing a variety of social issues. Some of the primary goals are-

Management Of Bharatgen
The research is being directed by IIT Bombay as part of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS). It is managed by the TIH Foundation for IoT and IOE, which will collaborate with numerous leading universities and research organisations to create the project.
Four Key Features Of Bharatgen
BharatGen is unique for various reasons.
Multilingual and Multimodal Models- The focus will be on developing AI that works with multiple Indian languages and modes of communication, such as text and speech.
Bhartiya Data Set- It plans to train its AI models using Indian data, making them more relevant to local needs.
Open-Source- BharatGen will be an open-source platform, which means that its technology will be accessible to everybody, fostering partnership.
AI Ecosystem- The project will help to expand AI research in India by enabling more academics and developers to work on generative AI.
Project Timeline
BharatGen is projected to be finished in two years, with significant milestones such as the development of important AI models scheduled for July 2026.
Focus On Indian Data And Efficiency
BharatGen's concentration on data sovereignty means that it will use data collected in India to authentically portray India's languages, dialects, and cultures. This is especially significant for languages with limited digital resources.
BharatGen is in line with India's aim of Atmanirbhar Bharat, which means self-sufficient India.
