The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has created the IITM School Connect program, which aims to help students make educated decisions about their higher education and professional careers. The curriculum includes two certificate courses in 'Data Science and Artificial Intelligence' and 'Electronic Systems'.
According to a news release, IIT Madras professors devised the two courses, with information geared exclusively for students in schools. The certification programs are offered to all students in Partner Schools' Classes XI and XII.
The key highlights of the courses include-
Recorded lecture videos
Hands-on training
Live Interactions
Assignments
Computer-based assessment for certification
The online courses will also provide students in Class XI and XII with hands-on work experience, according to the statement. The courses will run for eight weeks.
Notably, registrations for the upcoming batch began on September 16, 2024 and will end on October 4, 2024. The course will begin on October 21, 2024. Additionally, schools interested in enrolling students for the future batch should do so before September 30, 2024.
It should be noted that over 500 institutions across India are collaborating with IIT Madras, and as many as 11,000 students have already enrolled in the initial cohort.
Professor Andrew Thangaraj, Chair of the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE) at IIT Madras, stated that two key courses are currently available, namely Data Science and AI and Electronic Systems, and that plans are underway to introduce more such hands-on programs in the coming months to cater to a wider range of interests.
Professor Prathap Haridoss, Dean of Academic Courses at IIT Madras, spoke about the program, highlighting that students enrolled in the Data Science course worked on hands-on projects using datasets to extract significant insights.
“Courses such as these, expose the students to the various disciplines and help children identify their interests and strengths,” he added.
Professor Vignesh Muthuvijayan, Faculty Coordinator of BS Degree at IIT Madras, reported that the response from schools and students has been extremely good thus far. Meanwhile, applicants can learn more about the courses on the official website.
