Bhupendra Yadav, the Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, led the country in this year's Clean the Beach Campaign, which coincided with International Coastal Clean-up Day on September 21, 2024. The minister took part in a beach clean-up event at Juhu, Mumbai.

The Union Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) started the Clean the Beach Campaign on June 5, 2018, World Environment Day.
Objective
The program encourages residents to pick up man-made rubbish such as plastic bottles, cigarette buts, and glass along coastal areas, as well as raise awareness about the need of maintaining and protecting the oceans and waterways.

The Union Minister for Environment, Forests, and Climate Change has launched the 2024 Clean the Beach Campaign in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences and the governments of the coastal states and union territories.

The Clean the Beach Campaign was carried out along the beaches of the following Indian states and union territories-
Gujarat, the Union Territory of Daman and Diu,
Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala.

Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha.
West Bengal and the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
About ICCD
Occasion
The International Coastal Clean-up Day (ICCD) takes place on the third Saturday of September each year.
Aim
This day is intended to encourage people to clean up beaches, promote awareness about the need of preserving and protecting the world's seas and rivers, and address the issue of marine debris.
Progress
During this drive at Juhu Beach, almost 850 kg of litter was collected, with around 500 kg of plastics and other litter, such as single-use plastics and food wrappers.
In India, around 17392 volunteers participated on 35 beaches across all coastal states/UTs, including Juhu Beach in Mumbai, and approximately 35243 kg of rubbish was collected.
Plastic made up 25%, with glass accounting for 11%.
