Jafar Hassan, a technocrat and former planning minister who previously served as the king's chief of staff, has been named the new Prime Minister.

Jordan's Parliament is divided into two chambers: the House of Representatives is elected every four years, while the Senate is appointed by the king. In the most recent elections, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, won 31 of the 138 seats, their highest representation since 1989.
