Description
Following the recent horrible occurrence in a West Bengal hospital that horrified the nation, the West Bengal government proposes the establishment of a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Fast track special court to expedite cases involving these incidents.
About Fast-track Special Courts
Fast-track special courts (FTSCs) are far more efficient than ordinary courts in dealing with rape and POCSO cases.
The Department of Justice is establishing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to establish Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs), including exclusive POCSO Courts, around the country for expedited trials involving sexual offenses.
Structure Of The Court
Each court consists of one judicial officer and seven staff members.
Status Of The Court
In India, a total of 757 FTSCs are operational, including 411 exclusive e-POCSOs spread across 30 states and union territories.
According to available data, this court has disposed of over 214000 cases since its inception.
According to available statistics, West Bengal now has 62 Fast track special courts; the addition of 5 POCSO FSTCs will bring the total to about 67 courts.
FSTCs Considered A Ray Of Hope
A study on the operation of the FSTC stated that roughly 52% of cases have been resolved since the scheme's debut in 2018. And the disposal rate continues to improve, reaching around 80% to 90%.
According to the survey, Maharashtra and Punjab have a better strike rate than other states.
According to the research, India need more than 1000 FSTCs to ensure justice for victims in POCSO instances.
