Forecasting Challenges- Recent incidents, such as Delhi's record rainfall on June 28, 2024, have emphasized the limitations of forecasting single-day rain events. This emphasizes the need for better forecasting capabilities.
Current Accuracy Levels- Over the last five years, the IMD has claimed 80% accuracy for daily rainfall forecasts and 60% accuracy for five-day forecasts. Recent advancements have increased accuracy to 88% in July, thanks to improved data and decision support systems.
