According to the Assam Ministry of Education, the NEP emphasizes core values and principles in school education, requiring education to develop not only cognitive skills such as 'foundation skills' of literacy and numeracy and 'higher-order' skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving, but also social and emotional skills known as soft skills such as cultural awareness and empathy, perseverance and grit, teamwork, leadership communication, and others.
