According to sources, the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination has announced that beginning in 2025, students will be given three hours to complete their 80-mark paper. All topics, with the exception of second language and mathematics, last two hours. The second language papers had to be completed in three hours, whereas the mathematics papers had a time limit of 2.5 hours each. With the revision in place, the mathematics paper may now be completed in three hours.

According to sources, the council indicated the expansion of the exam duration in a circular written to school leaders. The council said in a circular that the ICSE (class 10) Mathematics exam will be extended from 2.5 to 3 hours. According to the announcement, the number of questions and paper format will remain same. The question paper for the 2025 exams will follow the same style as previous years.

According to a statement made to media organisations by CISCE Chief Executive and Secretary, Joseph Emmanuel, given the increased weightage of competency-focused questions, there is a need to implement standardised timings across subjects, which will help to manage student stress and ensure quality assessment.
