In a historic move to strengthen Indian education in the UAE, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has established its first Regional Office (RO) and Centre of Excellence (CoE) outside India, in Dubai.
On Teachers' Day, CBSE authorities, representatives from the Indian Mission in Dubai, and principals from 78 schools in Dubai and the Northern Emirates held a special orientation session to commemorate the milestone.
The discussion gave an opportunity to explore the new office's objectives, scope, and anticipated impact on the region.
During his visit to the UAE on February 13, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of the CBSE RO & CoE in Dubai, and operations formally began on July 2, 2024, at the Consulate General of India in Dubai.
During the orientation, Dr. Ram Shankar, Director of CBSE RO & CoE in Dubai, provided an in-depth overview of the CBSE's regional mission. He emphasized the board's primary goals, particularly its role in supporting learning outcomes-based education and creating new aspects of teaching.
He highlighted that CBSE would follow an outcome-based learning strategy and provide subjects at numerous levels to accommodate varying student skills.
The board will also promote art-integrated learning and health education as part of a more comprehensive educational approach, as well as introduce new skill subjects in line with worldwide educational trends.
The CBSE Regional Office is also implementing a number of assessment reforms aimed at making education more competency-based and student-friendly.
This includes implementing case-based and competency-focused questions, improving internal assessments, and creating Annual Pedagogical Plans. The board also wants to foster experiential learning through novel approaches including athletics, storytelling, and toy-based learning.
The new regional office in Dubai will play an important role in managing regional exams. The Centre of Excellence will focus on in-service teacher training, providing educators with the skills and information they need to keep current with educational advances and worldwide teaching approaches.
In his speech, the Consul General of India in Dubai, Satish Kumar Sivan, emphasized the significance of this new initiative, noting, "The Centre for Excellence will provide instructors with cutting-edge training, allowing them to keep current on best practices and innovative technologies.
"This will enrich the learning experience for students." He added, "The office will significantly enhance CBSE's support and resources for students, educators, and parents in the region. It represents the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of thousands of stakeholders who will benefit from its operations. The CBSE office will serve as a beacon of excellence and a hub for academic support for years to come."
