Description

The National Medical Commission has released new recommendations for Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) in MBBS. According to the instructions, the new curriculum will commence with the first session of the National Exit Test (NExT) in the 2024-25 academic year.

According to the CBME standards, NMC has proposed that the next step 1 exams for newly admitted students be held in March 2029. The NExt Step 2 will take place after students complete their internships in March 2030. The proposed NExT tests will be administered in accordance with the instructions given.

CBME Guidelines for 2024: University Examination

  • Phase I will take place at the completion of Phase I training (in the 12th month) and will cover Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry. 

  • The Phase II examination in Pathology, Microbiology, and Pharmacology will take place at the completion of Phase II training (12th month).

  • At the conclusion of Phase III Part 1 training (12th month), an examination in Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Ophthalmology, and Otorhinolaryngology will be administered. 

  • According to NExT regulations, the Phase III Part 2 / National Exit Test (NExT) (Final Professional) examination will be held at the end of the 17th / 18th month of training in the subjects of General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, and allied subjects. 

CBME guidelines: Criteria For Passing A subject

To be declared as passing in the subject, candidates must get a score of 50% in the Universitexaminedng theory and practical and not less than 40% separately in The and in Ton. In topics with two papers, the candidate must get a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate (both theory papers together).
