Description
During a historic visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised extensive humanitarian assistance and handed over four BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri) Cubes to the Ukrainian government. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since its independence in 1991, stressing India's desire for peace in the face of the ongoing war with Russia.
Humanitarian Assistance Using BHISHM Cubes
The BHISHM Cubes, part of India's Project Aarogya Maitri, are innovative, small devices intended for rapid deployment in conflict zones and disaster-affected areas. Each cube, weighing up to 20 kg, contains crucial medicines, medical equipment, and supplies. The cubes are designed to meet a variety of medical problems and are easily transported by air, sea, land, or drone.
Structure And Functionality
BHISHM Cubes are made up of smaller units known as mini cubes, which are then joined into bigger mother cubes. The first mother cube is outfitted for initial medical response, including injury care and 48-hour supply for a five-person crew. The second mother cube holds surgical instruments, allowing the creation of a basic operating room capable of executing 10-15 procedures each day.
Technology & Accessibility
The project is supported by a cutting-edge inventory management system that uses RFID technology to provide real-time updates. A dedicated BHISHM app and digital tablet, accessible in 180 languages, feature instructional films to help medical staff utilize the equipment efficiently.
Cultural And Diplomatic Ties
During their visit, Prime Minister Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy inked a number of agreements in agriculture, the food sector, medical product regulation, and cultural cooperation. PM Modi also paid tribute to the memories of children who died in the conflict by presenting a doll at a memorial in Kyiv.
