Description
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the inaugural flight test of the long-range glide bomb (LRGB) Gaurav from an Indian Air Force Su-30 MKI fighter jet on August 13, 2024 .
About GAURAV.
Gaurav is an air-launched 1,000 kilogram glide bomb that can hit targets from a long distance. "After launch, the glide bomb steers towards the target using a highly accurate hybrid navigation scheme," the DRDO said in a statement.
Developed Indigenously
The LRGB was created and developed in-house by the Imarat Research Centre in Hyderabad. During the flight test, the glide bomb hit the target on Long Wheeler's island with pinpoint accuracy, according to the DRDO. "Complete flight data during the test launch was captured by Telemetry and Electro optical tracking systems deployed by Integrated Test Range along the coastline."
Flight Is Monitored By Senior DRDO Scientists
Senior DRDO scientists monitored the flight. The development and production partners, Adani Defence and Bharat Forge, also took part in the flying trial, according to the release. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh described the test as a significant milestone in the country's efforts to develop indigenous defense technologies to boost the armed forces' capabilities.
