Description
The inaugural Global Women's Kabaddi League will begin next month (September) in Haryana. This historic event, officially known as the Global Pravasi Women's Kabaddi League (GPKL), will feature female competitors from more than 15 different countries. The tournament is a huge step forward in promoting Kabaddi abroad, boosting efforts to include the sport in the Olympic Games, and bolstering India's ambition to host the 2036 Olympics.
Organized By HIPSA And World Kabaddi
The Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA) and World Kabaddi will collaborate to start the League in Haryana. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed by HIPSA and the Haryana government to assist this project.
Aims Of This League
The League's goal is to foster the global development of women's kabaddi. The GPKL will feature teams from a variety of countries, including England, Poland, Argentina, Canada, and Italy, with athletes indicating strong interest in competing.
Kabaddi's participation In The Olympics
Former Indian Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has advocated for kabaddi inclusion in the Olympics. As India works toward hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, the addition of kabaddi would be a huge accomplishment.
About The International Olympic Committee (IOC)
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has a Future Host Commission (FHC) tasked with managing such issues. In a written response to the Lok Sabha in July 2024, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, stated that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), as India's National Olympic Committee, has been in contact with the FHC.
