Description

India's national flag, known as the Tiranga, represents the country's togetherness and pride. Its design has three horizontal stripes of saffron, white, and green, with the Ashoka Chakra in the center. The flag's dimensions are precisely set to ensure consistency and respect across different sizes and applications.

Design And Symbolism Of The Indian National Flag

The Indian national flag has three horizontal stripes of equal width. The top stripe is saffron, the middle is white, and the bottom is green. A navy blue Ashok Chakra with 24 spokes is positioned in the center of the white stripe.

  • Saffron (Top Stripe)- This color represents courage, sacrifice, and selflessness. It symbolizes the ethos of the Indian people, who have always been willing to make sacrifices for their country.

  • White (middle strip)- symbolizes truth, purity, and tranquility. It also represents the inclusiveness of all religions and communities, emphasizing India's multicultural and harmonious culture.

  • Green (Bottom Stripe)- It represents fertility, growth, and auspiciousness. It shows India's agricultural heritage and dedication to sustainable development.

  • The Ashoka Chakra- It represents righteousness, progress, and the perpetuation of life. The Chakra also symbolizes India's quest for self-realization and self-discovery.

Indian National Flag Size & Dimensions

The Flag Code of India specifies the size and dimensions of the national flag to guarantee uniformity and respect for the flag's dignity.

The flag has the following proportions-

  • Width to length ratio- The flag's width is two-thirds its length. The flag's width/length ratio is 2:3.

  • Size options- The Flag Code of India specifies multiple sizes for the national flag, depending on its usage and display.
