The Odisha government inaugurated the state's first Grain ATM, a new technology aimed to increase food distribution as part of the National Food Security Programme on August 8, 2024. This machine is part of the central government's Annapurti scheme, which was created with assistance from the World Food scheme (WFP) to improve food security in the region.
About Grain ATM
Grain ATMs are automated machines that deliver food grains to people directly, with the goal of reducing hunger. They are utilized in a number of nations, including India, to assist people obtain necessary food supplies more effectively. The machines reduce the need for human intervention, which helps to reduce corruption and ensure fair food distribution. Fast Dispensing- The equipment can dispense up to 50 kg of grains in five minutes and has a 99.99% accuracy rate.
Modular Design- The machine is designed to be simply assembled and installed in a variety of locations.
Energy Efficiency- ATMs are energy efficient and can be powered by solar panels for automatic replenishment.

The introduction of this Grain ATM is a big step toward employing technology to improve food distribution and create more nutritional security. The successful trial of the Grain ATM at Mancheswar is expected to lead to the installation of other machines throughout Odisha. About The National Food Security Act
The National Food Security Act (NFSA), passed in India in 2013, seeks to offer inexpensive food grains to roughly two-thirds of the population. The Act benefits 75% of rural and 50% of urban residents, providing 5 kg of food grains per person each month. It also provides provisions for nutritional assistance to pregnant women and children, acknowledging the right to eat as a fundamental human right.
