Description

Between March and May, calamities struck Mizoram, killing at least 42 people and destroying 5,938 houses. The Mizoram administration has requested Rs 237 crore from the Centre for rehabilitation and infrastructure repairs. The Union Finance Ministry is considering a report by an inter-ministerial delegation.

Allocation Of Rupees 15 Crore.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma has allocated Rupees 15 crore to the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) and provided Rupees 4 lakh as ex-gratia to the deceased. The CM and DM&R Minister K Sapdanga would grant Rupees 2 lakh to families of the deceased in Hlimen, with the remaining to be released later per SDRF standards.

Accompanied By Government Officials

Both politicians, together with government personnel, were there at Melthum to assess the situation firsthand. The Power and Electricity (P&E) and Public Health Engineering (PHE) ministries have issued alerts that electricity and water delivery would be disrupted until further notice due to damage to electric cables and water pumps caused by landslides and floods. According to sources, the cyclone killed 14 people in Melthum, four in Hlimen, three in Salem, two in Falkawn and Aibawk, and one each in Lungsei and Kelsih regions of Aizawl district.

Impact Of Cyclone Remal In India

Additionally, isolated locations in the hill state may suffer thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph. In response to the weather advisory, the Mizoram government has advised all offices and public sector units to close on August 7, with the exception of those involved in disaster management and critical services.
