Description
India will host the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) in New Delhi from August 2-7, 2024, following a 66-year break since 1958. The conference, held every three years at the Pusa Institute, will focus on "Transformation Towards Sustainable Agri-Food Systems."
Organizers & Participants
The International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE) organizes the conference in collaboration with several key institutions, including the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), the Agricultural Economics Research Association (India), the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research. The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will bring together roughly 1,000 delegates, including agricultural economists from major colleges and institutes in 75 countries, with women accounting for 45% of the total.
Conference Theme And Focus
The theme of ICAE-2024 is "Transformation Towards Sustainable Agri-Food Systems." The discussions will emphasis on moving away from traditional production-focused approaches and toward establishing integrated food systems that address malnutrition, hunger, and obesity.
Historical Context
In 1929, Leonard Elmhirst created the International Conference of Agricultural Economists in Devon, England. Its goal is to bring together leading agricultural economists and academicians to debate global agricultural concerns.
