Description

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the European Space Agency (ESA) will collaborate on the Ramses project, which will focus on the asteroid Apophis, which will pass near Earth in 2029. This initiative demonstrates how more individuals around the world are collaborating to examine things near to Earth.

Goal Of Ramses Mission

The 375-meter asteroid Apophis will pass just 32,000 kilometers away from Earth, providing scientists with an unprecedented opportunity to learn more about space. The Ramses mission's purpose is to monitor the asteroid so that we may learn more about potential hazards to Earth.

Involvement Of ISRO

Somanath, the chairman of ISRO, stated that the agency would want to contact with the asteroid during its flyby, although the particular details of the proposal remain unknown. Conversation with ESA about collaborating are already underway to use both parties' strengths. Asteroids are leftover components of the Solar System from its formation. Asteroids were previously overlooked, but people are becoming increasingly conscious of how destructive they may be to Earth, particularly given how dinosaurs died as a result of asteroid collisions.

IS4OM Activities And Future Plans

As part of the IS4OM project, ISRO has begun early efforts to look at asteroids and plans to put up dedicated telescopes for monitoring.
Working with international organizations such as IAWN and SMPAG will allow it to better analyze the risk of asteroids and defend the earth. In the future, ISRO hopes to collaborate with other major space agencies such as NASA and JAXA to strengthen global efforts in asteroid research and planet protection. This will strengthen safety planning at the national and global levels.

About ISRO

  • Historical Milestones: ISRO was founded in 1969 and launched its first satellite, Aryabhata, in 1975. This marked the start of India's space exploration odyssey, culminating in notable milestones such as the Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan) in 2014, which made ISRO the first Asian space agency to visit Mars.

  • Innovative Achievements: ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) is well-known for its cost-effectiveness, having launched 104 satellites in a single mission in 2017. The Chandrayaan-2 mission detected water ice on the Moon, adding important information to lunar science.

  • ISRO's ambitious goals: include achieving its first human spaceflight with the Gaganyaan mission. By 2020, ISRO had successfully launched a record 312 foreign satellites, demonstrating worldwide collaboration in space technology.
