Description

Every year, the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT K) awards scholarships to meritorious and qualified students. Some are in the form of reduced tuition fees, while others are direct benefit transfers to students' bank accounts.

List Of Scholarship

  • Institute Scholarships

These are supported by institute money. The institute shall provide scholarships based on merit-cum-means to all eligible students of the four-year BTech (Hons), five-year dual degree, five-year BArch (Hons), and five-year integrated MSc courses, as well as the four-year BS programme, under the following rules-

  • All students admitted to any of the 4 year BTech(Hons), 5 year Dual Degree, 5 year BArch(Hons), and 5 year Integrated MSc courses, as well as the 4 year BS program, with the exception of SC and ST students (who are eligible for post-matric scholarships from their respective state governments), and students who meet the conditions listed below, are eligible for the award of merit-cum-means (MCM).

  • These will be awarded to no more than 25% of the students admitted each year to the Undergraduate and Dual Degree programs.

  • The value of these will be established by the Board of Governors from time to time.

  • All MCM scholarship holders will be excused from paying institute fees. However, they must pay all other fees as prescribed.

  • The MCM shall be payable for the entire academic year, from July one year to June the following year.

  • Scholarships for July will be paid in full, regardless of when the Institute reopens after the summer vacation, as long as the student registers on the stipulated day. Otherwise, the scholarship for July will be paid pro rata.

  • No student will be allowed to receive more than one scholarship during the same period. If an awardee becomes eligible for another scholarship from any other source, he will be able to accept either of them. In such cases, he or she must communicate his or her decision in writing to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies.

  • The following conditions will govern both the initial award of the scholarship and its annual renewal through proper application-

- The student meets the merit criteria established for the award of these scholarships.

- The student's parent/guardian meets the means condition for awarding the scholarship.

- No disciplinary action has been taken or is ongoing against him/her within the previous year.

  • He/she has not been disciplined for examination malpractice or for violating the code of conduct at any time in the Institute/Hall of Residence/Department/Gymkhana, etc.

  • The merit criterion for awarding the scholarship shall be the following-

  • For fresh entrants, the student must have secured at least 60% in aggregate or a grade equivalent to 60% in the qualifying test for JEE Advanced.

  • For successive renewals, the student's performance in the two consecutive semesters of the preceding session, i.e. GPA, as updated after the supplementary/summer quarter test, must not be less than 7.00 (Senate 287.H.I.12).

  • Students who do not complete EAA will be eligible for merit-cum-means (MCM) and other Institute Scholarships (Senate - 322.H.I.C.5).

  • In addition, the scholarship will be reinstated for students who are on temporary leave due to medical or family emergencies, subject to eligibility and permission by the relevant authority.

Endowment And Alumni-Funded Scholarships

These scholarships are provided through an endowment fund, and the rules governing such awards are listed below-

  • In the following paragraphs, the phrase "best student" refers to the student who, in addition to meeting other general conditions, has the highest CGPA in the immediately preceding semester among all students in the same batch.

  • On April 1, IIT Kharagpur announced various changes to its undergraduate programs for classes beginning in the academic year 2024-25. According to IIT Kharagpur, the improvements align with the National Educational Policy (NEP 2020).
