Description
The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has approved various new pharmacy courses to be offered at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) beginning in the academic year 2024-25. The courses offered include DPharm, BPharm, and MPharm in pharmaceutics, pharmacology, phytopharmacy and phytomedicine, and pharmaceutical chemistry.
Initially, these courses will be introduced on the university campus. All programs will be run by the Centre of Excellence in Pharmaceutical Sciences (CEPS). CEPS now offers two postgraduate programmes: an MSc in medicinal chemistry and drug design, an MSc in bioinformatics, and a PhD in pharmaceutical chemistry.
According to Prof (Dr) Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of GGSIPU, the DPharm has 60 seats, the BPharm will admit 100 students, and the MPharm in pharmaceutics, pharmacology, phytopharmacy and phytomedicine, and pharmaceutical chemistry will have 15 each. These courses have a total of 220 places.
These courses, according to a university release, will meet the demand for qualified personnel in the pharmaceutical industry. CEPS's teaching pedagogy, hands-on experience with cutting-edge equipment, and industry-friendly approach will set it apart, according to the VC.
DPharm admissions will be based on the Class 12 merit list. For the BPharm course, precedence will be given to IPU-CET applicants, with the remaining seats (if any) supplied by those who have passed NEET. The MPharm slots will be filled first by GPAT-qualified candidates, followed by CET candidates.
Pharmacy education and practice in India are governed by the Pharmacy Council of India, a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. PCI approves DPharm, BPharm, and MPharm in several streams to complete pharmacy education.
