The India-Taiwan Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for Organic Products, which takes effect on July 8, 2024, intends to boost commerce by allowing certified organic products from both countries to join the other's market. This groundbreaking agreement is being implemented by India's Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Taiwan's Agriculture and Food Agency, respectively.

Significance Of The Agreement

This agreement allows Indian organic products including as aromatic and medicinal plants, rice, and herbal tea to be exported to Taiwan as long as they follow the standards set by India's National Programme for Organic Production. In contrast, Taiwan's certified organic products can enter the Indian market under comparable circumstances, boosting bilateral organic commerce.

India's National Programme for Organic Production encourages chemical-free farming practices, ensures organic certification, and establishes standards for organic produce. India is one of the world's greatest producers of organic products, having considerable organic farming areas in states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Sikkim.
