Description

The Delhi Technological University (DTU) plans to launch new undergraduate programs with flexible admission and departure options beginning with the 2024-2025 academic year. The institution is also developing a new programme called MTech by Research. The new programmes will provide for a variety of entry and exit points within this timeframe, in line with the 2020 National Education Policy (NEP).

Furthermore, DTU has established five-year integrated BSc and MSc programs in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biotechnology, and economics.

The MTech by research programme has been developed to support the institute's research operations. Unlike traditional MTech programs, which have three semesters of course work and one dissertation, the MTech by research program will consist of two-thirds research and one-third coursework.

Students would be able to complete their PhD more swiftly or decide whether or not to pursue one through this new MTech program.

With MTech by research, the chances of getting placed in consultancies and research organisations will improve. Also, there are less chances for these people to shift from technology to management domains,” said Prateek Sharma, VC, DTU.

He also stated that the syllabus for the new courses is consistent with components of the National Education Policy (NEP) and adheres to the University Grants Commission's (UGC) guidelines for four-year undergraduate programmes.

The syllabus for the new programs includes parts on artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, data science, machine learning, cyber security, disaster management, and clean and green energy.

The new programmes are being offered in the already existing departments and therefore the need to appoint faculty is not arising now. “The already existing faculties will impart the classes of the new courses. With time, if we see a requirement arise, we will start the recruitment process,” he added.

The university also plans to set up institutions in other places as well. “Many alumni who are in the Middle East are indicating and sharing some interests that they can help us have a centre there,” the VC said. However, he added, this is in the initial stages.

DTU is planning to reach out to industries to support labs and centres. “We have also collaborated with industry partners like Samsung,” the Vice Chancellor said. The university aims to provide R&D to the industries and build a symbiotic relationship with the industries.

DTU has established five centres of excellence and research: the Centre of Excellence in Energy Transition, the Centre of Executive Education, the Centre of Excellence for the Use of Drone Technology, the Centre of Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction, and the Centre for Community Development and Research.
