The Indian Institute of Technology-Mandi (IIT-M) has launched MS (by research) and PhD programmes in Music and Musopathy. The programs are available to both full-time and part-time students and can be completed live, online, or in a hybrid format by any qualified candidate, regardless of geographical location.
“The initiative underscores our commitment to promoting interdisciplinary learning and contributing to the highly regarded field of Indian music and the burgeoning field of Musopathy.” read the press release of IIT Mandi. Online applications for the course are open until July 15.
The M.S. and PhD programs in Music and Musopathy are research-based, with the goal of producing highly skilled professionals and researchers who can make meaningful contributions to the development and understanding of music and its positive effects on individuals and society, including the wellness-focused field of Musopathy.
This IIT Mandi program provides a comprehensive education in Music and Musopathy, with basic, intermediate, and advanced levels, all complemented by the knowledge of the Indian Knowledge System and Mental Health Application (IKSMHA).
Graduates of these degrees will have several options not just in the classical, popular, and film music industries, including as music recording and production specialists, but also in research institutes, academia, and the healthcare and wellness sectors. The seamless integration of technology, music, and therapy provides graduates with the broad abilities required for innovative problem solving and leadership roles in a variety of disciplines.
Speaking about the new programmes, professor Laxmidhar Behera, Director, IIT Mandi, said, “IIT Mandi is committed to developing science and technology relevant to the Indian knowledge system. The M.S. and PhD programs in Music and Musopathy represent another significant step in this endeavor. This program will not only explore the science of Indian music, but also its therapeutic value for the holistic well-being of mind, body, and consciousness.”
