India just launched the "Fauna of India Checklist Portal," which is a significant step toward animal conservation. This comprehensive collection includes 1,04,561 species, making India the first country in the world to document all of its wildlife. The launch took place in Kolkata on the Zoological Survey of India's (ZSI) 109th Foundation Day. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav presided over the occasion.

The 'Fauna of India Checklist Portal' has 121 checklists for 36 phyla and provides thorough information on known taxa, including endemic, endangered, and scheduled species. This plan is crucial for several reasons-
