The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has begun offering an MBA degree in Digital Maritime and Supply Chain. The course, which is touted as the world's first, is meant to meet the needs of working professionals all around the world.
According to a news statement released by the college, the launch ceremony took place on campus on June 28 and was attended by industry professionals, staff, and students.
According to the statement, the new MBA degree is a 24-month curriculum established by IIT Madras' Departments of Management Studies and Ocean Engineering, in collaboration with industry partner i-maritime Consultancy.
According to the release, the goal is to provide global professionals with the skills they need to navigate the fast expanding digital landscape of marine trade and supply chain management.
Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, stated that the MBA in Digital marine and Supply Chain is an innovative program designed to help professionals and entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of today's marine and supply chain businesses.
“Our goal is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how digital technologies can optimize operations and drive strategic growth,” Professor Kamakoti said.
Professor K. Murali, Chairperson of the MBA (Digital Maritime and Supply Chain) Program at IIT Madras and Dean (Faculty), stated that the MBA program is designed for working professionals, effortlessly combining on-campus cooperation with the flexibility of live online sessions.
Professor M. Thenmozhi, Head of, the Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras, pointed out, “The integration of digital technologies into maritime and supply chain industries presents significant challenges, from ensuring cybersecurity to managing data analytics and implementing blockchain.”
“The IIT Madras MBA in Digital Maritime & Supply Chain is structured to address these challenges head-on, providing professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities in this dynamic landscape,” Professor M. Thenmozhi added.
Ramesh Singhal, MBA (Digital Maritime and Supply Chain) curriculum Director, emphasized that the groundbreaking curriculum was methodically created to provide professionals with cutting-edge digital technology capabilities.
Eligibility
- Candidates with a bachelor's degree with at least 60% marks and two years of full-time job experience are eligible to apply.
The Admission Process
Shortlisted students will take an online IIT Madras Admission Test before being interviewed in person.
Applications for the program are currently open, with the first cohort beginning in September 2024.
Program Features
In two years, participants will work with cutting-edge digital technologies like IoT, AI, ML, and Blockchain.
The program is four years long and includes 900 hours of classroom and project work for a total of 192 credits.
Participants benefit from a demanding curriculum that comprises six on-campus immersion modules and comprehensive access to IIT Madras' instructional resources, including the Digital Maritime Library.
Blended Learning- Provides flexibility for professionals by combining online and on-campus modules.
Alumni Status- Graduates are granted IIT Madras Alumni status and lifetime access to educational resources.
Curriculum that incorporates AI, ML, IoT, and Blockchain technology is considered innovative.
Career support includes increased employability and global career prospects, as well as access to IIT Madras' Incubation and Start-up Platform.
Global Networking- On-campus immersion sessions as well as international networking possibilities.
Fees And Scholarship
INR 9,00,000 is payable in instalments.
Scholarships for up to 50% of the course fee are available.
The program is eligible for bank loans.
