Description

The Indira Gandhi National Institute of Open University (IGNOU) has launched a new programme called Master of Business Administration in Health Care and Hospital Management. The course is open to graduates with at least 50% marks (45% for candidates from reserved categories, according to Government of India guidelines).

The curriculum aims to develop a trained workforce for employment in healthcare institutions, allied organizations, and hospitals in both the private and governmental sectors. This effort by IGNOU strives to give effective support and ensure high-quality healthcare nationwide, including in distant locations.

After finishing the degree, students may be appointed to managerial and administrative positions in healthcare organizations/related institutions. Students must pay semester-wise fees of Rs 15,500 for the first semester, Rs 15,500 for the second semester, Rs 19,500 for the third semester, and Rs 17,500 for the fourth semester.

The program is divided into four semesters and carries 112 credits.  The first and second semesters contain seven basic courses, each worth four credits, while the third and fourth semesters contain specialist courses. In the third semester, students must complete a project as well as a practical. During the practical course, participants will be stationed in hospitals or other healthcare facilities to gain practical experience in a hospital setting.

Students can acquire theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills to apply a scientific approach to managing people, materials, finance, and communication and for organising work and managing resources.” a statement from the press release. Along with the above, here are some of the learning outcomes, student can expect after the completing the course-

  • Learn about modern management strategies such as inventory control, economic order quantity (EOQ), operational research, organisational development, management information systems, and more.

  • Plan how to address hospital administration issues and learn problem-solving and decision-making techniques, including the use of biostatistics in planning and medico-administrative research. 

  • Evaluate clinical and non-clinical patient care needs, including the administrative and technical requirements of physicians and paramedical professionals.

  • Maximize the efficiency of various services by applying general management principles and functions.

  • Understand the concepts and practices of health management, as well as its interplay with medical care in hospitals, as well as how to apply epidemiological techniques to investigate illness prevalence and patterns in the community in order to plan health care services.
