The government selected Atul Kumar Chaudhary as the new Secretary of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on June 20, a position that had been vacant since V Raghunandan's retirement on May 31.

About Atul Kumar Chaudhary

Chaudhary graduated from IIT-Rookkee and earned his Master of Public Policy and Administration from IIPA Delhi. He has held positions in Personnel, Human Resources, Administration, Licensing, the BSNL Vigilance Wing, and the Department of Telecommunications. Previously, he served as DDG in the Department of Transportation. Chaudhary is an Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer from the 1989 batch who is currently employed as the Deputy Director General (DDG) of the Unique Identification Authority of India. He is on deputation for foreign duty, initially for two years.

In Place Of Raghunandan

Raghunandan retired on May 31, with his retirement being announced at the TRAI open house on May 15. During his tenure, he oversaw significant telecom project executions, telecom enforcement around the country, and policy implementation. Atul Kumar Chaudhary formerly worked as the Deputy Director General (DDG) at the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and, in 2021, as the DDG at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
