Delhi Airport has launched India's first self-service mechanism for check-in luggage

Delhi International Airport Ltd established a self-service mechanism with the goal of allowing customers to drop off bags, collect tags, and print boarding cards in less time to complete check-in on June 17.

Installation Of Self-Service Bag Drop (SSBD)

Delhi's IGI Airport has erected approximately 50 Self-Service Bag Drop (SSBD) facilities for travelers in Terminals 1 and 3, which are available with three airlines: Air India, IndiGo, and Air India Express.

Mechanism Function

This new system enables passengers to acquire and apply their luggage tags at CUSS kiosks upon arrival. After the passengers have placed their luggage on the SBD conveyor belt, the system opens the appropriate airline's application on the SBD machine with a single click. Furthermore, the DIAL stated that the SBD system internally checks all important criteria and business standards set by the airlines when passengers agree to the dangerous items self-declaration form with a single click.

Different From The Original Mechanism

Previously, travelers could bypass check-in offices, print boarding tickets, and retrieve baggage tags using common-use self-service (CUSS) kiosks. When the baggage reaches the drop units, passengers must scan their boarding tickets or confront biometric cameras before dropping their bags on the conveyor belt. To make the process more efficient, DIAL introduced a quick drop solution that eliminates the requirement for boarding cards or biometric authentication, as these details are already on the baggage tag, reducing processing time from around a minute to 30 seconds.
