Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched a BTech in AI and Data Analytics program, and students will be admitted beginning in the academic year 2024-25.
According to IIT Madras, the newly introduced undergraduate degree is designed to provide students with essential skills and information. The curriculum intends to develop knowledge in a variety of AI and data analytics topics.
“AI is evolving across engineering, science and humanities disciplines. It is extremely important to understand these multi-disciplinary connections to be successful in this field. The B.Tech. in AI and Data Analytics is uniquely positioned to address this aspect. It is first of its kind in the world. The curriculum has evolved based on the experience gained by our faculty over more than a decade. Through this offering, IITM aspires to produce top-notch AI professionals, entrepreneurs and researchers who can take up with great confidence the grand AI challenges in the evolving market," said Professor V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras.
Admission Process
According to the institute, entrance to this program is based on the JEE (Advanced) exam. The program would include 50 students admitted through the JEE. A major emphasis will be placed on Math Fundamentals, Data Science/AI/ML Foundations, Application Development, and Responsible Design, in addition to a distinct interdisciplinary flavor.
The degree is being provided through the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, which was founded with an endowment of Rs. 110 crore by Mr. Sunil Wadhwani, a famous IIT Madras alumni and co-founder of IGATE and Mastech Digital, according to the press release.
Students can go deeper into areas of personal passion and interest by learning about voice and language technology and computer vision, as well as applications in control and detection and time-series analysis. The core curriculum has been developed to provide a solid foundation in AI and data analytics, covering a wide range of topics critical to success in this profession. The curriculum, which includes basic courses in linear algebra and calculus as well as specialist modules in machine learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning, intends to provide students with a solid toolbox to face the diverse difficulties of this discipline, according to IIT Madras.
