Description
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) has bestowed the Dilip Bose award for lifetime accomplishment on instructor Nar Singh. The first award would be handed to Rohini Lokhande, 69, who was a member of the national squad alongside Kiran Bedi, Nirupama Mankad, Susan Das, and Udaya Kumar before transitioning to coaching at an early age.
About This Award
In 2002, the All India Tennis Association established the Dilip Bose Lifetime Achievement Award. The accolade and a cash prize of Rs.50,000 will be handed during the 11th National Coaches Workshop, which will take place on June 7 and 8 at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana in Pune.
About Dilip Bose
Dilip Bose was a professional tennis player from India. He represented India in the Davis Cup and won the Asian Championship. Following his retirement, he worked as an administrator and coach. In his honor, the All India Tennis Association instituted a lifetime achievement award in 2002. Bose won the singles event at the first Asian Championships in 1949, which were held at his Calcutta South Club. He was therefore seeded 15 at Wimbledon in 1950. When he retired, he lost the second round match to Netherlands' Hans van Swol, 6-4, 5-4. The doctors had instructed him not to play because he had just recovered from a severe episode of malaria.

Nar Singh, 65, who has worked as a coach and educator for many years, will be the 11th recipient of the Dilip Bose Award. Balram Singh, his eldest sibling, was chosen for the prize in 2011.
