The Uttarakhand government hosted India's first astro-tourism event, 'Nakshatra Sabha', at Mussoorie, the 'Queen of Hills' on June 1 and 2, 2024. The inaugural event was hosted at George Everest Peak, which is well-known for its stunning vistas of the Doon Valley and the snow-capped Himalayas.

The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board arranged the 'Nakshatra Sabha' in partnership with Starscapes, a major private astrotourism organization. Following the success of the Mussoorie event, the government intends to hold similar astro-tourism events in other sites, including Harsil-Jadung, Benital, Rishikesh, Jageshwar, and Ramnagar.

During the program, visitors were introduced to stargazing using specialist equipment, solar observation with solar glasses and H-Alpha filters, and astrophotography courses from professionals. Discussions, seminars, competitions, and astronomical displays were held to engage visitors and promote astro-tourism.
