The cricketing world saw another veteran hang up his boots as Kedar Jadhav, a 39-year-old former Indian all-rounder, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Jadhav's decision comes shortly after former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik announced his retirement from the game following his final appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Kedar Jadhav: A Versatile Cricketer
Kedar Jadhav, who wore the Indian jersey in the 2019 World Cup, last played for India in a One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand on February 8, 2020, at Auckland. Jadhav, a product of Maharashtra provincial cricket, made his international debut for India in an ODI against Sri Lanka in Ranchi, Jharkhand, in 2014.
Contributions To Indian Cricket
Kedar Jadhav, a middle-order batsman and off-spin bowler, represented India in the ODI and T20 formats, however he was never called up to play Test cricket. Jadhav scored 1389 runs and took 27 wickets in 73 One-Day Internationals for the Men in Blue. In T20 cricket, he appeared in nine matches and scored 122 runs, including one half century.
Domestic And IPL Exploits
Kedar Jadhav's domestic career with Maharashtra was equally outstanding, with 6100 runs, including 17 hundreds and 23 half-centuries, in 87 First-Class matches. His services extended to the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played for several teams, including the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Chennai Super Kings, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 93 IPL appearances, Jadhav scored 1196 runs, including four half-centuries.
A Successful Cricket Journey
Kedar Jadhav's retirement brings an end to a remarkable cricket career that lasted more than a decade and a half. His versatility as an all-rounder, as well as his ability to provide vital performances at critical times, made him an invaluable asset to whatever side he played for.
As the cricketing fraternity says goodbye to another hero, Kedar Jadhav's services to Indian cricket will be remembered and treasured for years to come. His retirement serves as a reminder of the sport's ever-changing character and the perpetual influx of new talent that makes the cricket world exciting and dynamic.
