Description
ISRO, through its Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), has launched the PraVaHa software, a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool for aerodynamic design and analysis of aerospace vehicles.
Aerodynamic Design And Analysis
PraVaHa, which stands for "Parallel RANS Solver for Aerospace Vehicle Aero-thermo-dynamic Analysis," is designed to simulate both external and interior flows on a wide range of vehicles, including launch vehicles, winged and non-winged reentry vehicles.
Functionality And Applications
This CFD software allows for a better knowledge of airflow around aircraft, rocket bodies, and Crew Modules during earth re-entry, which is critical for shaping design aspects like structure and Thermal Protection Systems. It solves issues caused by unstable aerodynamics, such as flow disruptions and acoustic noise creation during missions.
Capabilities And Scope
PraVaHa takes advantage of advances in CFD technology, providing accurate forecasts for complex aerodynamic flows and shorter simulation turnaround times, particularly on High-Performance Computing Clusters. Its adaptability extends to CPU and GPU architectures, making it suitable for existing and future supercomputing facilities.
Application To Gaganyaan Program
PraVaHa has played an important part in the Gaganyaan program, enabling aerodynamic study for human-rated launch vehicles like as the HLVM3, Crew Escape System (CES), and Crew Module. Its collaborative framework enables collaborations with academic institutions and government laboratories.
Future Prospects
PraVaHa's ongoing validations and refinements intend to include simulations for situations including chemical processes during air dissociation and combustion, which are especially relevant for vehicles like scramjets. Its eventual integration is expected to replace commercial software in many aero characterisation models, hence aiding universities and organizations involved in aerospace design.
